Unappetizers (English Express Unit 5)

Many foods that were once enjoyed by everyone have "lost their following", so to speak.  While many holdouts continue to enjoy these "unappetizers", more modern and demanding younger generations don't usually eat these anymore.  What examples are there of foods that have fallen out of favor in your country?  (Add a picture if you can find one!)

  2. The traditional dish in my culture is brain.

This dish is no longer popular in Israel but the old generation loves this dish.

In Israel they serve the brain dish in special occasions such as the Jewish New Year's Eve and weddings.

To prepare the dish we use serves ingredients such as onion, garlic, red pepper and lots of spices. It is usually being served with white rice.

Although the dish looks unappetizing it tastes like heaven.

  3. Maasob

First time I saw it i I said I would never eat it. Now It's been one of my favorite. Maasob, is mashed banana with whole wheat bread and cream milk.  Simply mix them together and put some honey on it. It's really an unappetizing, but is delicious though.

  4. Once very popular and widely available beef tripe stew is an excellent example of a dish that has fallen out of favor in Poland. It is usually made out of cow’s stomach, though game like deer can also be used. The preparation is pretty easy: the meat has to be cut into stripes and cooked together with root parsley, carrot, celery, onion or leek and beef stock. The spices used for this dish depend on the region and personal preferences of the cook, but bay leaf, black pepper, salt, nutmeg, marjoram and dried ginger are widely used. When I was a kid my mother used to serve this dish on a regular basis and I remember being quite fond of it. In the last 20 years the beef tripe stew became less and less popular, though some families still cook it regularly.
