Intermediate Adult ESL: Women vs. Men


The Male vs. Female Decision Making Process

Based on our class discussions of the differences between men and women, do you think the humorous "Decision Making Process" chart above is purely a joke or do you think that there is truth to what it depicts?

In general, I think that women have more complex purchase decisions than man. But my point of view isn’t limited to the fact that women must obligatory buy items theirs like.
In some case money can be the big problem, and when you are broke, you can’t change your mind and decide to buy the items you want or you need. Maybe this is why some women prefer to buy a lot of chip items, and have a large choice.
In general I think men and women would buy everything they find attractive if they had extra money to spend. This is a general point of view and I would like to clarify that they are also people whose purchasing process are not as the same as in this table.

I think that the differences between men and women are huge, especially if you are talking about purchases, in most cases the decision of the woman is slower and harder than the man.
For example, when a woman goes shopping looking for clothes, she always tries ten different types and in the end ends up buying the first one that she had tried. It´s a waste of time.
Look at my mother, she has a fifteen pairs of shoes and always want to buy one more, looks like it´s never enough.

Apparently it is fair enough.
Women tend to decide to buy something after they went to a shop, while men go to the shop after decision.
Because women like to go shopping even if that is window shopping.
So women think a lot during the shopping, but men just buy what was already decided.

I think a lot of time women think more reasons about choice than men
Such as when i was shopping with my friend(male) in supermarket on monday,i wanted to choose a shampoo,then my friend went the area and picked one for me,but it was random,of course i didn't want it,i d love to see the brand of goods first,then i chosed the effect,at last if it smelled good ,i would buy it otherwise i would choose another one.I took 5 mins with that but my friend just used 1min
I think that is why people always say women take a lot of time on shopping

Once examined the picture I going to give my opinion.

I think in most of the cases this picture say the true.

I think that mans in most of he cases only buy things that they need and they can afford.

Women when they buy don't think as much as men. And in most of the cases buy things that maybe wouldn´t use.

I think that chart is a Little exaggerated, but try to say sometime that is true. Women think about everything before buying something, because for most woman the clothes is something that represent them.

Instead men are more simple and if they see something that like them and is confortable, they just buy it. Obviously they think if is nice or not, but is not so important.

This do not happen only with clothes is with everything. For example in marketing, comercial for women is total different for men. Comercial for women always have more things to show is with more color is a Little more complicated. However comercial for men is simple, they do not like to see many things, just that they want.

I agree with this chart that women take a long time to decide for two reasons. First, women have to consider a lot of factors when they are going to buy clothes such as colors, brand’s name....etc. Women try to be more beautiful and stylish. The second reason, they consider prices. They like to get beautiful things with lower prices. On the other hand, men are faster to take a decision. For example, when I have an occasion, I need at least a week to be ready while my husband decides in one day what he is going to wear.

I agree with the humorous "Decision Making Process". This is a fact scientifically proved. Men have a liner thinking and woman one as a tree. Women can also do multiple tasks, while men can´t do it. These facts have a negative side too. Men are good at practical decisions and remains in focus. Women do life more complicated (life is already complex, not need to be complicated…) and spread her attention all the time.
I also have daily experiences about that from my relationship with my husband. For example, before send children to school I think about what weather is, when our homeworker came home for wash the clothes, which activities children have, etc. My husband only checks if they are dressed. This is not a good example but I´m tired and I´m thinking about take a shower, skype with family, make dinner….

I think it depends on person and situation. Generally, the girls think a lot of things more complex than guys. As you know, almost girls like shopping! even just looking. They can enjoy walking in a shopping mall. However the guys hate them if they don't need to. They think just looking some stuff , not buying is waste time, boring and useless. I don't know why. i like to go shopping too but I don't like just looking them because if I find a good stuff when I don't have enough money, I will feel miserable but my friends usually say to me 'go shopping! just looking! you don't have to buy something!' I love my friends and I would like to hang out with them but I don't want to go shopping mall to play.. Anyway
I've seen many couples fighting each other when they went shopping. the man wanted to go home, the woman wanted to stay more. I think they should talk about how do they figure that out. we can't make sure about people's personality but I believe there are some instincts between women and men but you don't have to have particular prejudices. There are a lot of different type of people in the world! not just men and women.

I agree with this table because I am a woman. From this table, I know the difference from the process of men and women. I think that men is simple. They decide only left or right. While, women have so much selection till they decide to buy or not. So, I think that women is more bother than men.

When I go shopping, I always think whether an item is useful or not, an item is too expensive or not, an item suits me or not. While, my brother doesn't go shopping if he doesn't want to need anything.
So, I think these experiences suit this table.

I think, every woman likes high quality handbags, shoes and clothes. Every woman even wants to have different colours and styles handbags and shoes. if she saw the bag that she wanted the most, she could fail in love and buy it no matter what. For example, women would spend all her salary. But this situation is different with men. A man in general, when he needs new clothes, he buys it, if he can afford it. Sometimes, a woman could spent more money that is to die for.
But a man considers, if it is worth to buy.
Eventually, men shop with logic, while women shop with instics.

Evrebody knows that women are more emotional that man. Woman's decision depends on her mood. Thet why all women can change their desicions few times a day. It happpens all the time with me and I should say to be a woman is very defficul . I have a lot of clothes that I have never wore ahd I don't know what was wrong with me whan I bought all this stuff.

Of cours, a lot of that depends on the personolity, but usually making decision is very defficult for women.

Man are more dicisive then women. They have to be dicisive and confident.

First of all, besides men and women I think it is differentiated by person’s character. This idea might be contradicted in that females tend to be more delicate and has more interests in shopping. That is why the decision making in shopping done by a female is more complex than that of a male.
For give an example, from my experience i have seen my parents argue frequently while shopping. my dad thought the more expensive the clothing the better while my mom wanted to look for a cheaper price somewhere else for the same product.
If you look at this problem the conclusion of wasting money is the same and if one has more interest in something it would not seem as waste. I think these decisions can vary in the priorities and interests of people.

I agree this chart. When I have benn shopping with ex-girl friend.
I feel, women always want to get something and they are never satisfied.
women simpley can not deside and are not sure of what they want.
If women have many choices it is hard for them decide.
Women like to window shopping and waste of time and money.
Men make quick decision when I gonna shopping,I like it I buy it.
If I don`t like it, I don`t buy it. Men shop faster than women.
